Parade mural for Meta Open Arts

I was commissioned to create a mural for one of Meta's newest Menlo Park buildings in the summer of 2021. I proposed creating a parade mural that you could experience passing you by as you walked down the hall. It was inspired by my deep fascination and admiration for small town parades in which the locals strut their stuff for one another while being cheered on by their community. I love the variety between parade performers in different places and how they can give an outsider insight into a place and what the people there are invested in and proud of. The parade depicted in this mural is informed by my experience going to parades growing up in California's San Joaquin Valley. I was assisted by Zach Erickson who is almost always by my side when I paint murals. This music in the video is George Benson's "Gimme The Night" performed by the San Francisco 49ers Marching Band in the 1980's.
